Obituary Pat Rogers Harris, age 84, passed away to his heavenly home on December 21, 2021, in Athens, Texas. He was born in Dallas, Texas on November 4, 1937 to Kern J. Harris and Helen J. (Gorney) Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen Hargett Harris; daughter, Cindy Harris Daves; brothers, Kern J. Harris Jr. “Sonny”, James “Jimmy” Harris; sister, Victoria Gassett. Pat graduated from Wilmer Hutchins High School in Dallas in 1955. He then married the love of his life Helen, on December 22, 1956, they were married for 63 years, before her passing. Pat was a hard worker. Working for himself most of his life, he owned and operated Harris Auto Parts in Athens from 1965-1980. Then he had several other businesses in the Athens area. Pat served as pastor of a church in Childress, until he went on the mission field to the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Browning Montana. They moved back to Athens in 2009 and he retired. He was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Athens where he taught Sunday school for many years, drove a bus for the church’s bus ministry and sang in the choir. He enjoyed fishing, playing games and in the later years when he could not get out much, he enjoyed calling and visiting with his friends on the telephone. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his sons, Steve Harris and wife Susan, Jeff Harris; daughter, Karen Soderquist and husband Ray; grandchildren, Jennifer Harris Nelson and Cassie, Josh Harris and wife Holly, Staci Hansen and husband Tedd, Dillon Harris, Cody Harris, Shane Harris and wife Michelle and Marlie Bird; 12 great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service held on January 8, 2022, at Central Baptist Church in Athens.
