Death notice for the town of: Greenville, state: Michigan
To the family of Michael Lovett, you have my utmost sympathy for the lost of an incredible teacher, and friend. To Mr. Lovett, he wasn’t just a teacher, he was our friends as a teacher. He helped up and guided us in the path of learning, and discovering new and important ideas about discovery, thirst for knowledge, and the unending desire to have fun while we were doing it. I was a Teacher Assistant for him at West Middle School, and I loved is fun and comical way of learning and teaching….whether it was walking on the desks in our labs, using a yardstick slapped against a table to get our attention, or throwing a globe of the world; he grabbed our attention, and got us focused on the most important thing in life, “Learning!” We didn’t always know it at the time, but we sure did reflect on the many things that he taught us as we continued in life and throughout our careers. His influence on me eventually had me teaching as a college professor for over 16 years at two universities, and I have done many things in my life, but I have never stopped thinking about the Man, Mr. Lovett and his influence on my life. He will surely be missed by this students that loved his passion for life and his strong desire to learn. He had an influence on most of us, “if we were breathing and alive in his classroom!” The most memorable event in his Earth Science class was when he asked me the question, “Will water run up hill?” I thought about his question for a minute and remarked, “No water can’t run up hill!” Mr. Lovett proceeded to go to the lab facet and place a rubber hose on the end of the facet. He turned at me and with his magical smile he said, “Under pressure will run up hill!” He turned the water on, and I got really wet with water. Now some people would have thought this a terrible act, but you know what, that was Mr. Lovett, forever the teacher…..and I have never forgot that principle to this day, 51 years later. That’s the kind of man he was, always loving his students, and caring for others. He was a gem of a teacher, and he will be forever missed by this student under his leadership. Thank you for sharing a piece of your life with me Mr. Lovett. Doug Wales
