Marion’s Obituary Marion J. Johnson, age 85, of Ashland, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at the Northern Lights Health Care Center in Washburn. She was born on November 24, 1936 in Ino, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Estock) Washnieski. Marion attended school in Iron River and Benoit before graduating from Ondossagon High School in 1954. She married Kenneth E. Johnson on January 10, 1959 in West Allis. Marion worked at the A & W Root Beer stand and F.W. Woolworths in Ashland and Briggs and Stratton in Milwaukee. Later, she and Ken owned and operated a dairy farm in Mason and the K & M Country Market in Benoit. She enjoyed cooking, baking, flower and vegetable gardening and embroidering. She loved playing cards with family and friends. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren playing games and attending their sports activities. She also enjoyed watching game shows and basketball games, especially girls’ basketball and was a Milwaukee Bucks fan. She and Ken enjoyed their trips, including a European Farm Tour, going to Nashville, Tennessee to visit Graceland, as Elvis Presley was her favorite singer, Branson, Missouri, and Colorado. Some of her best memories were centered around her 53 years of marriage to Ken. Marion was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Ashland and will be dearly missed by all who loved her. She survived by 3 daughters, Debbie (Jim) Kurtz – Albany, MN, Janet (Tom) St. Germain – Ashland and Jane (Tom) Brilla – Mason, a son, Kenneth Johnson – Mason, 7 grandchildren, Justin (Kristi) Kurtz, Jordan (Emily) Kurtz, Jenna (Zach) Huybrecht, Kaitlyn St. Germain, Abbi, Mary and Dawn Johnson, 3 great-grandchildren, Logan, Emery and Vivian Kurtz, a sister, Irene Vojacek – Eau Claire, a god-daughter, Patti Wolf – Menomonie and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ken on July 8, 2012, a daughter, Donna, a god-daughter, Karen Washnieski, 4 brothers, Albert, Frank, Edward and Robert and 3 sisters, Florence Washnieski, Agnes Reiten and Rose Marie Ziman. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Ashland with Pastor Rachel Sieja officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11 A.M. on Saturday at the church. Per church policy masks are required. Inurnment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ashland. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Ashland City Beautification. “When a mother dies, we lose a piece of who we are.
