Louis’ Obituary KAPHENGST, Louis “Lou”– of Lapeer, age 85, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021, at Ascension Genesys Hospital. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 11:30 AM Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Goodrich United Methodist Church, 8071 S. State Rd., Goodrich, MI 48438. Rev. Joel Walther officiating. Visitation will be 3-7 PM Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison, MI 48423. Visitation will be at the church from 10 AM Thursday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Goodrich United Methodist Church or Arbor Day Foundation, in Louis’ memory. Lou was born in Fawn Lake Township, Minnesota on December 16, 1936. He married Mildred (Willobee) on June 21, 1958. He retired from GM Truck and Bus in 1995 after many years of service. Lou served his country in the United States National Guard. He enjoyed gardening, wintering in Texas and welding sculptures. During his lifetime, Lou planted more than 1.5 million trees. Lou is survived by his loving wife, Mildred “Millie”; children, Connie (Tim) Elkins, grandchildren, Andrew and Alison Elkins; sister, Minnie Batoha; and many other loving family members and friends.
