Obituary Loretta Pope, age: 77, of Madison WI, passed away on June 6, 2021 at her residence. She was born on December 31, 1943, in Birmingham, Alabama, the daughter of John and Evergreen Hunter. She married Kenneth E. Pope Sr. on December 23, 1971, in Madison, WI, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Kenneth and Loretta were blessed with two children Kimberly Elizabeth Pope, Kenneth Eugene Pope Jr. and later blessed again by adopting Kyle Eugene Pope. Loretta was a licensed practical nurse (LPN), serving at Madison General Hospital, and she also worked for Visiting Nurse Service of Madison. She loved helping and taking care of others. Loretta was a Christian. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist church since the 1970s and was baptized there. She loved God greatly and often spent time praying for her family. Loretta was a member of the Golden Circle and a member of Friendship Chapter #2 Order of the Eastern Star. Loretta had many hobbies. She loved to travel and had many adventures vacationing with her sisters to places like Jamacia, the Caribbean, Mexico, Italy, Barcelona, Germany, North Africa (Tunis), London, and France. One of the trips she loved most was sailing down the river Seine in France. Loretta also loved to cook and was very good at cooking. People would come from near and far to taste her delicious southern delicacies. She also loved to read, listen to jazz albums, watch sports, play cards, and dance. Her favorite jazz artists were Charlie Parker and Miles Davis. Loretta aspired to author a murder mystery novel, and often talked with excitement while developing her masterpiece. Loretta was very social, vibrant, giving and full of life. When she loved you, she loved you to life and made sure that you knew how much she loved you with actions instead of words. Loretta was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Loretta will be missed beyond measure. Loretta is survived by Kimberly E. Coburn (Daughter), Kenneth E. Pope Jr. (Son), Kyle E. Pope (Son), James Pope (Brother-in-law), Bettie Jean Lipscomb (Sister), Johnnie Mae Willis (Sister), Evelyn Jackson (Sister), Margie Hunter (Sister), Sheryl Willis (Niece), Donna Hunter (Niece), Linda Faye Hunter-Thomas (Niece), Eric Wills (Nephew), Pam Willis Wimley (Niece), Angie Willis Burts (Niece), Erica Willis (Niece), and many more nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and friends. Loretta was preceded in death by John Hunter (Father), Evergreen Hunter (Mother), Kenneth E. Pope Sr. (Husband), Bob Hunter (Brother), Edmonia Hunter (Sister), Annie Benson (Aunt), Jimmie McCoy (Aunt), Pauline Hunter (Aunt), Maggie Pugh (Aunt), Albert Hunter (Uncle). A visitation will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 11:00am until 11:45am at Cress Funeral Home, 6021 University Ave, Madison WI, 53705. Funeral services will follow at 11:45 am. Burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery, 1 Speedway Rd., Madison, WI 53705.
