Obituary Linda Susan Smith passed away peacefully at her home in Charleston, South Carolina on December 5th, 2021 after a short illness. Linda was born in 1949 and grew up on Long Island, New York with her mother, Irene, her grandmother, Rose, and her father, James. She was an only child. Linda, a Registered Nurse, was married for 52 years to her husband Robert, who was the love of her life. Together they raised their family in Allentown, New Jersey then eventually in Shelton, Connecticut before settling in Charleston. She spent her summers vacationing on Long Beach Island with family and was happy to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary there surrounded by family and friends. Influenced by her Hungarian grandmother, Rose, Linda was an amazing cook dedicated to ensuring everyone in her company left with a full belly. Her specialties included Sunday dinners with a typical menu of standing rib roast, hot popovers, and homemade chocolate cake. Within the family she was most famous for her tradition of baking an assortment of cookies each and every year that served as the tasty last course to the annual Christmas dinner hosted by her beloved sister-in-law and friend, Mary. Being a nurse was one of Linda’s greatest passions, dedicating over 35 years to her profession. Beginning with pediatrics, she eventually achieved certification in rehabilitation. She spent many years providing care to the patients of St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center in Lawrenceville, New Jersey and culminated her career as a Director of Nursing at Bishop Gadsden in Charleston. Linda is survived by her husband, Bob, her three children, Kelly Salus (Tom), Jen Moore (Warren), and Chris McMahon (Becky); her seven grandchildren, Carlyn, Allyson, Andrew, Lauren, Madison, Lindsey and Maya; her sister-in-law Mary Hamilton and brothers-in-law Larry McMahon and Patrick McMahon. She is also survived by her lifelong friends Ev Morel and Dave Helmer. She was predeceased by her brothers-in-law Joel Hamilton and Brian McMahon. A celebration of life will be held in New Jersey at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Linda’s name to The Hollings Cancer Center in Charleston.
