Obituary of Kay Joiner Kathryn “Kay” Irene Joiner, 90, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021. She was born Kathryn Irene Wolfer on January 10, 1931 in Houston, Texas. Kay graduated from Milby High School in 1948. In her younger years Kay worked as the bookkeeper for her father’s business, Wolfer Brothers. Kay studied business accounting in college and graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. She met Robert “Bob” Davis Joiner while attending Southwestern University and they later married. Kay obtained her teaching certificate from Stephen F. Austin University and taught special education classes for Nacogdoches ISD and Goose Creek Consolidated ISD. She later obtained a master’s degree from Lamar University. A constant example of Christ’s love, Kay was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, as well as a faithful servant to the church’s her husband pastored. Kay taught pre-K, kindergarten, and children’s Sunday school for Sunset UMC in Pasadena, Canterbury UMC in Alief, First UMC in Sugar Land, and First UMC in Pearland. She also worked as a substitute teacher for HISD, J.P. Henderson Elementary and Bonner Elementary. Kay loved to dance. She was a member of Dance Masters of America and taught dance at the Whitney School of Dance. Kay and Bob raised three children, Mia, Michael, and Misa. They were later blessed with four grandchildren and then six great grandchildren. In her spare time Kay enjoyed attending the prime timers events at First UMC Pearland. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Kay is preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Ertha Wolfer; loving husband Reverend Bob Joiner; one brother; and one sister. She is survived by her son Michael Joiner (Kathy); daughters Mia Joiner-Moore (Liz), Misa Batcheller (Craig); grandchildren Jodi, Miles, Steffi, Christopher; great grandchildren Nyomi, Lynix, Thurston, Alec, Lydia, Levi, and a host of other family and dear friends. A memorial service for Kay will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, January 15, 2021, at First United Methodist Church Pearland, 2314, N. Grand Blvd, Pearland, Texas, with pastor Reggie Clemons officiating.
