Kathleen “Kathy”‘s Obituary Kathleen A. “Kathy” (Johnson) Williams, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at her home. She was born in Ypsilanti on September 1, 1948, to the late William and Rosemary (McGinn) Johnson. Kathy graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1966 and attended Sienna Heights and Eastern Michigan College. On November 9, 1968, she married the love of her life, James “Jim” Williams, after he returned from his tour in Vietnam. Following the wedding, they made their home in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and later moved to Big Rapids when Jim was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force. In Big Rapids, they raised their three children, Brian (Jessica), Mike (Richelle), and Laura. Kathy retired from Ferris State University and transitioned to her favorite role of full-time Grandma. Her grandkids, Braeden, Emma, Katie, Jenna, and Lauryn, were her everything. She was immensely proud of them. Kathy was an avid reader, loved all things Disney, with Tinkerbell being her favorite character. She also enjoyed watching and rooting for her Detroit Tigers. She always honored her Irish heritage by tracing the family history, listening to Irish music, and making St. Patrick’s Day special for her children. Her true love was Christmas. She embraced the magic of the season, sharing her love of the Christmas spirit with family and friends. Kathy was blessed with a loving family and wonderful friends, which include the North End Park Group. Her husband of 52 years, children, and grandchildren survive her. Kathy is also survived by her brothers, Bill (Lori) Johnson and Tom (Becky) Johnson; sisters, Patty (Chuck) Wren and Susie (Bob) Marsh; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of the Resurrection will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2021, at Saint Paul Campus Parish, where Kathleen was a member, with Father Tom Page officiating. The family will greet friends Sunday, May 16, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at SAINT PAUL CAMPUS PARISH and one hour prior to Mass on Monday. Kathy will be laid to rest at Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids. Please wear a mask and follow the guidelines for social distancing. Box 1020, Big Rapids, MI 49307, or Animal Rescue Coalition (ARC) of Mecosta County, 18400 220th Avenue, Big Rapids, MI 49307.
