JOHN’s Obituary John William Hughes, 76 years old of Grayslake, IL, passed away Monday, November 1, 2021 at The Cottages, Fox Lake, IL. He was born December 27, 1944 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the son of the late Alexander G. and Mary Eileen (nèe O’Neill) Hughes. He served proudly in the United States Marine Corps from April 1963 to April 1967. For those who knew him, he loved to share stories about anything military related. After a short time in Chicago and Des Plaines, he moved to Lake Villa and became an active member of the community, including the Jaycees and the Chamber of Commerce. John loved to golf participating in the Tuesday Night Golf League at Fox Lake Country Club. He also loved to travel, play cribbage; but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; his children, Susan (Don) Slickman, Elizabeth LeClair, Mary Kate (Tomás) Onsurbe, JW (Joanne); his grandchildren, Katie (Pei Ho) Grillaert, Eric (April) Grillaert, Christopher LeClair, Cody Grillaert, Sean LeClair, Jason LeClair, Tomás Onsurbe, Isabelle Hughes, Katie Onsurbe, Kimmy Onsurbe, Sophia Hughes, Lily Hughes; his great-grandchildren, Mia and Meric; his siblings, Patricia “Patsy” Tilley, Alexander “Sandy” Hughes, Kathy (Andy) Pearl; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2021 at Strang Funeral Home, 1055 Main St., Antioch, IL 60002. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will immediately follow in Hillside Cemetery, Antioch, IL. I went thru Boot camp at Parris Island in April 1963 to August 1963 with John.
Although i didn’t know John That well we had a bond ( serving in the Marine Corp ) that will last forever.
I spoke to him a few months ago ( got his number from another Boot Camp Member that was close to him ) and he said that he was feeling ok
