John’s Obituary SHELTON: John E. Knecht III, age 83, a resident of Shelton, entered into eternal rest on Friday morning, December 17, 2021, in the comfort of his home, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of sixty years to Diane Bottume Knecht. Mr. Knecht was born in New Haven on April 16, 1938, son of the late John E. Knecht Jr. and Elinor Striby Knecht. He graduated from Branford H.S. in 1956 and attended Paier College of Art. He served in the Connecticut Army National Guard from 1961 to 1967 in the 1048th Transportation Company being honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was employed at United Nuclear, Avco Lycoming, ITT Corporation and retired from United Technologies Research Center in E. Hartford in 1999. His hobbies included genealogy and photography and was a member of the New Haven Camera Club in Hamden. In addition to his wife Diane, he leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Jeffrey M. Knecht (Jean) of Brookline, NH, a daughter, Mary E. Knecht of Derby, a brother, Robert Knecht (Peggy) of NC, grandchildren, Leah, Christopher and Megan, great-grandchildren, Niyah and Emmitt as well as several nieces and nephews. Due to the current pandemic, the family has chosen to celebrate John’s life in private. He will be interred in the family plot in Beaverdale Memorial Park in New Haven.
