Obituary Andrews: Hugh Gene Altman, Jr. 75, husband of Linda Ard Altman, died Sunday, November 28, 2021, at his residence. Mr. Altman was born in Hemingway on December 18, 1945, a son of the late Hugh Gene Altman, Sr. and Maria Howell Altman. He grew up in the Morrisville community of Andrews and graduated from Hemingway High School. Mr. Altman was a lifelong member of Happy Home Original Freewill Baptist Church and served for many years as a Deacon. He worked for the Container Division of International Paper Company in Georgetown until retirement. Mr. Altman was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish the Black River. He was compassionate and caring to all people and animals, especially strays. Gene and Linda were married for fifty-four years and were blessed with two sons and five loving grandchildren, that he loved spending time with. One of his most pleasurable times was when he could be tinkering with his “56” Chevy. He will surely be missed by all who knew him. Surviving are: his wife of Andrews; two sons, Stacey Altman (Bobbie) and Craig Altman (Robin) both of Andrews; five grandchildren, Joseph Altman (Michelle) and Dayton Altman (Cassidy) both of Georgetown and Hunter Altman, Hannah Altman, and Kaleb Altman all of Andrews; a sister, Joyce Fulton (Ronnie) of Andrews; one brother, W.H. Altman (Tammy) of Pamplico; a special brother-in-law, Jimmy Ard of Andrews; a sister-in-law, Iva Cox of Andrews; a brother–in-law, Randy Ard (Linda) of Andrews; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins Linda and family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Amedisys Hospice of Florence, for the wonderful care given to Gene. Funeral Services will be two o’clock Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Happy Home Original Freewill Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Terry Dennis and Rev. Marty Cox. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery near Brown’s Ferry. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church sanctuary from one until two o’clock.on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.
