Harry’s Obituary Harry Wade Johnson, Sr. 72, died Sunday morning, December 5, 2021 in his Roanoke Rapids home. Harry was born in the Olivia community of Harnett County on September 24, 1949, the son of Linwood Allen and Mary Fitts Johnson. His parents, two brothers and a sister all preceded him in death. He was a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Roanoke Rapids, and prior to that he retired from JP Stevens after 34 years of service. Harry was a very humble man, and a good soul. He loved his wife and his family boundlessly, and was their “papa bear” protector and provider. Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Smith Johnson; son, Wade Johnson and his wife, Darlene; daughter, Kim Poythress and her husband, Johnny; his grandchildren, Jeremy Poythress, Matthew Johnson and Jarret Johnson; as well as step-grand and great-grandchildren. Friends may visit with the family from 12 noon until 1:30 pm Wednesday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service. The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm in the chapel, with Pastor Wayne Marshall presiding. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon.
