Gerard James “Jerry” Guthrie died Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Castlewood’s Place in Brandon. He was 78. A native of New Orleans and born on January 28, 1943, he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Marie Blanchard Guthrie. He grew up in Gretna, Louisiana and was a 1961 graduate of Jesuit High School. He attended the University of New Orleans where he received his baccalaureate degree in accounting. He retired from the State of Mississippi Department of Human Resources following… many years of service. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Flowood where he was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council. He loved his faith & his family; country music, LSU football, and the Boston Celtics. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol Duvernay Guthrie, of Brandon; son, Joseph Edward Guthrie (Debbie), of Ft. Worth; daughters, Karen Guthrie Sturdivant (Adam) and Katy Guthrie Bray (Steven), both of Brandon; grandchildren: Natalie & Lauren Guthrie; Ethan, Carson, & Briella Sturdivant; and Parker, Peyton, & Sadie Kate Bray. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 18 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Flowood, with Father Gerry Hurley, celebrant. Rite of Committal to follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Pearl. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the Mass at the church.
