Obituary Emma Jean Bennett-Morris was born June 15, 1953, in Marianna, Arkansas to Frances Dunlap and Emmett Bennett. Both parents preceded her in death. Emma moved to Benton Harbor in 1966. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1971. She attended Lake Michigan College and received an Associate Degree in Business Administration. Emma worked for the city of Benton Harbor from 1975 – 2007. During this tenure, she held the position of Administrative Assistant to the Director of Recreation; City Manager; and the Chief of Police. She was also self-employed as a tax preparer. Many will miss her income tax services. On June 24, 1977, she married Everrett Morris II, who preceded her in death. To this union was born Everrett Morris III. Jean had a personal relationship with Christ. She believed in Him for her healing and strength. Although she was confined to a wheelchair it never broke her spirit. She enjoyed reading a good romance novel or watching the latest movies on Netflix. When at the table eating, talking with friends, or playing a hand of spades, Jean would be smiling and laughing. Her famous phrase of “okey dokey” was her warning, to those who knew her, to drop the subject or let’s move on. While playing cards, her love for old-school music kept her moving to the groove. Emma Jean leaves to cherish her memory: Three children; Cathy (Duval) Wright of Clarksville, TN, Michael Bennett, and Everrett Morris III of Benton Harbor, Michigan; Grandchildren: Duval Jr., Davontae, Diontae, Emily, Dominic, Shania, Aaliyah, Majesty, Everrett IV, Emoni, Zanique; Great grandchild: Tra’VI; Siblings: Lonnie (Lavana), Charles (Sharee), L.B. (Mary) of DeSoto, TX, Joyce, Sherron, Carol and Timothy of Benton Harbor and Toney of Sikeston, MO; Grandmother: Lillie Mae Mayfield of Benton Harbor, Michigan; Closest and dearest friends: Jolyn Burnside, Renee Frazier, Deborah Young, Daisy Jones and sister-in-love, Geraldine Thomas; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She had a special connection with her granddaughter, Shania, who cared for her and worked tirelessly around the house. She was preceded in death by her parents: Emmett Bennett and Frances Willis; Grandfather, James Mayfield; Sisters: Mae Brady and Phylicia Bennett; and Nieces: Tasha and Akera Bland.
