Ellsworth Edward (Bill) Sargent, 91, went to join his wife of 70 years, Rosemary on October 23, 2021. He died peacefully at home with his family by his side. He was born in Moscow, ME November 27, 1929, the son of Raymond F. and Viola M. (Eichman) Sargent. Bill graduated from Ellsworth High School. He then joined the Navy which took him to London where he met his wife. They were married in 1951 and in 1952 returned to Ellsworth where they raised their family. Because of his strong Catholic faith and sense of community, he served as president of the Church Council for 20 plus years. For seven years he and Rosemary spent six months volunteering at the Franciscan Mission in Guaymas, Mexico and one winter at a Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. He also volunteered at Collier’s Nursing Home for 32 years. He has donated 20 gallons of blood to the Red Cross. He served as mayor of Ellsworth for three years. Bill enjoyed sailing the coast of Maine on their boat, “The Double Eagle”. He loved spending time with his many friends and family. He is survived by his daughters, Michelle Sargent of Tequesta, FL, Nora Garland and husband Bob of Fletcher’s Landing, and Maryellen Lozano and Augie of Bar Harbor; sons, Gregory Sargent, and Robert Sargent both of Fletcher’s Landing; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rosemary; daughter, Rebecca Sargent. The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice for all their care.
