Obituary Derek Russel Smith, 49, of Clinton Township, passed away December 1, 2021, at his home. He was born in Mt. Clemens, May 2, 1972, the son of the late Daniel and Suzanne (Kent) Smith. His marriage to Loredana Hucul was April 17, 1998, in St. Clair Shores. Derek proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corp from 1991 thru 1995. Derek lived a pretty full life but was taken way to soon. He graduated from Roseville High School, worked a Long career at the Detroit News and Free Press, and was a loving father of three beautiful children. Derek was known for his jokes and pranks. You could always count on him for a good laugh. Surviving in addition to Loredana, his wife of 23 years, are three children, Brendan (Alyssa Bocquet) Smith, Bryce Smith, and Bentley Smith; a granddaughter, Gracelynn Smith; his grandmother, Irene Kent; his aunt, Dana Somerset; a “sister”, Audra (Brian) Davis; three foster siblings, as well as, many loving cousins and friends. Derek was preceded in death by his parents, Suzanne Smith and Daniel Smith, and grandparents, Mae Smith and Russell Kent. The family honors the memory of Derek and invites you to visit and share memories Friday, December 10, 2021, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Mt. Clemens, with a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. Rev. John Boyd, chaplain of Heartland Hospice, will officiate. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to “Wishes of the Family”.
