October 5 1962 March 4 2021
David Edward Strange, age 58, recently of Dunlap, TN passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 4, 2021. David was born in Long Beach, California on October 5, 1962 and spent his formative childhood years in Southern California before relocating to Bedford, TX, where he graduated from Trinity High School in 1981, soon after, joining the US Army. After his military service, he pursued and attained a successful 34-year career in logistics, all the while settling and raising his family, first in North Texas and, for the past 16 years, in Oswego, IL. He only recently moved to Dunlap, TN in December of 2020. He was preceded in death by his father, H.Michael Strange, mother, Sherry Jones Sullivan, sister, Kimberly Strange Lee and both his paternal and maternal grandparents. He is survived by Maureen, his loving and devoted wife of more than 30 years; daughter, Caitlin Strange Griese and husband, Hans; son, Steven Strange and fiancĂ©, Alexandra Martin; sister, Julie Strange Duffey (Mike); step-mother, Joanne Nicklas Strange; nieces, Claire, Erin, Rosemary and Adalynn McStravick, Carley Duffey; nephews, Shaun and Ryan Lee, Colin and Hugh McStravick. David lived his life in service and duty to others. He first served his country as an Army Airborne Ranger with the 82nd Airborne Division. Through his enviable postings to Ft. Bragg, NC, Ft. Richardson, AK and Vincenza, Italy he attained the rank of Sergeant before leaving the military for civilian life. Always humble about his service in the military, it has only been learned by his family since his passing just how deep and lasting an impact his leadership had on the other many young soldiers with whom he served. Upon leaving the US Army he began his most important mission, service to his family. David adored his wife, Maureen, unreservedly. He lived each day to make her walk in this world easier. He spoiled her beyond reason. He was an amazing father to his two children, Caitlin and Steven. They were his world and anyone who spoke to him for more than two minutes knew how proud he was of them. Their welfare was always on his mind. He was his family’s rock, providing direction and acting as a steadying force in their world. David held many and varied passions. A lifelong student of history, his love of knowledge was passed on to his children. He learned and later loved the game of soccer, born from his children’s passion for the game. He was both coach and cheerleader throughout their playing careers. And finally, his beloved pets. His unabiding love for animals is a trait that is shared among his entire family. His loss will be felt by his dogs, Bella and Woody, and his cats, Nero and Hobbes. They will miss his snuggles and long walks. David will be missed beyond measure by his family and friends, but most especially by his beloved wife, Maureen, in whom he is woven into the very fabric of her life, from the mundane to the grand. A visitation in honor of David’s life will be held at Ewton Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Dunlap, TN on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 from 3 to 7 PM CST.
