Charlie’s Obituary Charles A. Peberdy, Jr, 70, affectionately known as Charlie, passed peacefully at home on Saturday, October 16, 2021, surrounded by his family, following a five-year battle with cancer. Charlie was born in Philadelphia to Mary McCabe Peberdy and Charles A. Peberdy, Sr. on March 14, 1951. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Deborah; his daughter, Melissa; his son, Edward; his granddaughter, Micayla; and his grandsons, Alan and Caelix. He is also survived by his brother, Philip, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Charles, Bill, and John, and sister, Mary Anita. Upon graduating from The Citadel in 1974 with a BS in Business Administration, he joined the Navy and served aboard various ships and commands. When Charlie transferred into the Navy Reserves in 1977, he served as the Commanding Officer of numerous Reserve units. All of the ships and commands benefited from his superior leadership abilities. Charlie retired as a Captain after 30 years of proud service in 2004. He also worked as a business analyst for the Naval Supply Center Charleston from 1978 to 2002. Charlie was very active in the Citadel Alumni Association, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and the Frederick Military Academy Alumni Association, as well as the Reserves in Nautical Kinship (RINK), which is a large group of (mainly Navy) servicemen and women that get together annually to roast a pig and tell sea stories. Above all else, he will be remembered for his love of life, fidelity to friends, high standards and unquestionable morals. Charlie served his Lord, family, friends, and country with faith and honor. A gathering of family, shipmates, and friends is scheduled for a future date, and the family requests that memorials in his honor be made to The Citadel Foundation (foundation.citadel.edu), or the Semper Fi Fund (semperfifund.org). Charlie will be greatly missed and will be with us always. ‘Fair Winds and Following Seas, Shipmate!’ Arrangements by James A. McAlister, 1620 Savannah Hwy, Charleston. (843) 766-1365.
