Obituary Carolyn Gray Spencer, age 86, of Nebo, NC passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Autumn Care of Marion. Carolyn was born November 11, 1934 in McDowell County, NC to the late Joseph H. Gray and Ida Elizabeth Bost Gray. She was a seamstress and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church for over 20 years. She loved to hunt, fish and travel. She was very talented at crafts. She did a lot of needle work and made beautiful aprons and quilts. Carolyn was a very strong woman with a great sense of humor and a sharp mind. She was well loved and will be deeply missed. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, James Danie Spencer; her daughter, Vivian Pokrzywa; and her grandson, Shann Lowery; her sisters, Virginia Houck, Evelyn Dellinger and Elizabeth “Lib” Conley. Those left behind to cherish Carolyn’s memory are four children, Henry Don Spencer (Ramona) of Nebo, James Danie Spencer, Jr. of the home, Doris Elaine Spencer of Nebo and Terry Jo Lowery of Nebo; ten beloved grandchildren, John, Revonda, Amanda, Sarah, James, Allen, Derrick, Jeannie, Greggory and Kim; nine precious great-grandchildren, Matthew, Natalie, Timothy, Edward, Ethan, Kalie, Caleb, Campbell and Isaac; and one sister, Alice Browning of Nebo. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until11:00 am on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. A funeral service to celebrate Carolyn’s life will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Pastor Gyles Widener officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
