Carmen’s Obituary Carmen L. Mooney, 96, was called to heaven on December 14, 2021. She was surrounded by her family and her husband of 61 years, Allen S. Mooney. Mrs. Mooney is preceded in death by her daughter, Dora V. Torseth; parents, Juan and Isabel Lopez; sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Lewis Guerrero; in-laws, Jhonny Lou and Jeff Mooney; and son-in-law, Ingar A. Torseth. She is survived by her husband, Allen S. Mooney, of the home; sister, Mary Nell Lopez of Beaumont; grandchildren, Andrea L Flores of Durham, NC, Bianca L. Torseth of Beaumont, John L. Torseth and wife, Jennifer, of Providence Village; great-grandchildren, David L. Gardner of Durham, NC, Isabella and Jillian Torseth of Providence Village and numerous relative throughout Texas and Mexico. Carmen was born in Deweyville, Texas and then moved to Bessmay, Texas before settling in Beaumont with her family. She graduated St. Anthony’s High School in 1943 and then she completed a business program from Chenier Business College in 1944. She had an extensive career with various companies before retiring in 1994 from the U. S. Forest Service. Throughout her life, Carmen was an active member of her faith. She was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Daughters of America, LULAC member, taught catechism, was secretary for St. Pius 1 Catholic Church in Hemphill, was a former council member, president of Altar Society Reading, elector and Eucharistic minister. Carmen and Allen traveled extensively throughout the United States. Her favorite trips were Yellowstone, Colorado and Acapulco, Mexico. The trip of her life was in 2000 where she was able to go to Israel. Carmen led a blessed life. She’ll be dearly missed but forever in our heart. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Monday, December 20, 2021 in Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas with Rosary to follow beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at St. Pius I Catholic Church, 329 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas with Father Maria Susai Avula officiating. Burial will follow mass beginning at 2:00 p.m. in Magnolia Cemetery located on North Nellius Street in Woodville, Texas.
