April 7 2021
Obituary On the beautifully sunny morning of April 7, 2021, the Reverend Carl John Halquist rose out of his earthly body and embraced Jesus, his Savior. While both sons stood at his bedside, and holding the hand of his beloved wife, he took his last breath. All earthly ailments are gone, and he has been made new! Carl was born on August 19, 1937 in Turlock, California, to Carl John Sr. and Lydia Halquist. Carl was a turkey rancher with his dad in the 50’s, where he would stay in the barn with the turkeys during thunderstorms all night, so the turkeys would feel safe…his first time shepherding a flock! Carl and his father opened a 50’s drive-in called “The Comet” in the mid 50’s, where he ran the business before graduating from Turlock High School. Carl attended Central Bible University, in Springfield, Missouri, where he met the love of his life, Sandra Laine Hunt. Carl and Sandy were married in 1962 and went on to pastor Assemblies of God churches in California, Indiana, and Michigan for more than 50 years. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his infant son Carl John Halquist III “Tripp”, his infant granddaughter Marie Lydia Halquist and his sister Yvonne Kugler. Carl is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandra, his sons Scott (Kristi) Halquist, John (Julie) Halquist, grandchildren Kyle and Christian Halquist, Nathan, Cornell and Benjamin Halquist, sister Arlene, and many nieces and nephews and brother and sisters in law. The family would like to hugely thank the staff of Raybrook Manor and Faith Hospice for their loving care and attentiveness to the family’s needs. A small private service of immediate family is being held shortly, and a larger Celebration of Life will take place at a later date, to be announced. A favorite Bible verse of Dad’s; “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 Per the family’s wishes, no flowers, please…instead, Carl would have wanted donations to be made to Faith Hospice, Holland Home, or your home church.
