“B. T.”‘s Obituary Burnice Truman Short, known to most as B. T., passed away Friday, December 17, 2021 in San Augustine, Texas at the age of 92. B. T. was born April 18, 1929 in Brookeland, Texas to Oswald Burnice Short and Myrtis Jane Smith Short. He was a United States Army Veteran having served in the 24th Infantry Division during the Korean War. Later, he was a supervisor for Chicago Bridge & Iron for many, many years until his retirement. After retirement, that gave B. T. time to do what he loved best and that was to visit with his friends and family around Pineland. Owning and running B. T.’s Self Storage gave him plenty of time to mingle with friends, old and new. He was also a Dallas Cowboys fan. A lifetime resident of Sabine County, B. T. was a member of First Baptist Church of Pineland and also a 50 year member of Pineland Masonic Lodge. B. T. is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Short of Pineland; his daughter, Marilyn Short of Pineland; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Truman Short. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2021 in Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas with Bro. Adam Carringer officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow services in Pineland Cemetery with his great nephews serving as pallbearers. The Sabine County Honor Guard will provide Military Honors. His family requests that lieu of flowers, donations instead be made to First Baptist Church in Pineland, Texas.
