Obituary Arthur James Vaughn (AJ), 63, of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2021. AJ was born on March 19, 1958 to Vicky and Art Vaughn in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. As a boy, he loved playing baseball with his best friend Larry Marsh and others at Ghesquire Park. AJ had a work ethic that was unmatched. At age 11, he had his first job delivering newspapers for the Detroit Free Press. He graduated from Grosse Pointe North High School, class of 1976. He moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan to attend Western Michigan University, where he earned a degree in business with a major in marketing. He began working at UPS, which would become a 25 year-long career. During that time, AJ earned many promotions, starting from working the overnight preload shift to driver, then on-car supervisor, human resources, and industrial engineer. In January 1992, AJ met Laura Macleod Vaughn at Main Street Pub in Kalamazoo. They were married by June that same year. The newlyweds moved to Bryant, Arkansas, where they lived for a short period of time before settling in Benton, Arkansas for 15 years. On March 10, 1994, AJ and Laura had their first and only child, Megan Elise Vaughn. AJ continued his career at UPS in Arkansas until retiring in 2004. AJ was a man of many comical antics and wacky superstitions. He was the king of idiosyncrasies, which is what makes him so irreplaceable. He was a kind man with a gentle heart. He absolutely adored animals, and they adored him. Many said he was an animal whisperer. AJ was a brilliant man. He was gifted with numbers, remembering specific dates, phone numbers, and addresses, retaining them his entire life. AJ had a smile that would fill the room with sunshine. He was quick-witted; people would laugh so uncontrollably that they would beg him to stop being so funny. He loved watching football, spending time outdoors with his wife and daughter, and relaxing with a cold one. His favorite places in the world were Lyle Park in Benton, Arkansas, and Siesta Beach in Siesta Key, Florida. AJ was predeceased by his father Arthur John Vaughn, brother-in-law Chris Rabbitt, and beloved friend Vince Gilley. He is survived by his wife Laura Vaughn, daughter Megan Vaughn, mother Vicky Vaughn, sister Helen (Bill) Clay, niece Gillian (John) Moss, nephew Graham Rabbitt, goddaughter Charlene (Josh) Sell, and many others who will miss him dearly and endlessly. A memorial will be held for AJ on Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 1-4pm at the Assumption Cultural Center. All who loved AJ and would like to celebrate his life are welcome to attend. There will also be a celebration of life held in Benton, Arkansas at AJ’s beloved Lyle Park. Date TBD. A caring cremation was entrusted to Walter Scott Skupny Funeral Home, 28605 Gratiot, Roseville.
