Obituary Anita Lee Venters Wilson, 91, of Midway, KY, died on December 2, 2021 at Homeplace Midway, surrounded by her family. Anita was born April 10, 1930, in Whitesburg, KY to the late Ray and Maxie Lee Venters. At 16, after her mother’s death, she was enrolled in the Kentucky Female Orphan School in Midway. She graduated and married Ambrose Wilson III in 1949 at Midway Christian Church, where she has been a member since 1946. They traveled for Ambrose’s work with the VA Hospital and lived short periods of time in Louisville, KY; Huntington, WV; Erie, PA; McKinney, TX; and Muskogee, OK before returning to Midway in 1970. Anita received her degree from Midway College and worked there, serving as administrative assistant to three presidents and secretary to the board of trustees, until she retired in 1992. After retirement, she spent her time doing what she loved the most – enjoying her family, playing bridge, tending to her swimming pool, caring for her many flowers and most of all, being Grandmama and Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anita was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ambrose Wilson III, parents Ray and Maxie Lee Venters, stepmother, Edna Venters, sister, Raye “Teemy” Ralph, brother, James Keith Venters and daughter-in-law, Karen Wilson. She is survived by her sons, Ambrose Wilson IV and Charles Henry Wilson (Terri), and daughter-in-law, Shirley Wilson, all of Midway; her grandchildren, Jenny Wilson Spratt (Gary), Cindy Wilson Smithers (Bill), Ambrose Wilson V (Diana), Heather Ruff (Jeremy) and Robert Wilson (Amber); and 10 great-grandchildren, Robert Ambrose Smithers, Brooke Lee Stilwell, Lucy Spratt, William Smithers, Ella Spratt, Ava Wilson, Gracie Ruff, Spencer Ruff, Parker Wilson and Caroline Wilson. Visitation will be Monday, December 6, 2021, 11am-1pm, funeral at 1pm, both at Midway Christian Church, followed by burial at Midway Cemetery. Her grandchildren, Jenny, Cindy, Ambrose V, Heather, Robert and great grandson, Robert Ambrose, will serve as pallbearers.
