Mr. Alvis Eugene Harrison April 06, 1959 – August 17, 2021 Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card Mr. Alvis Eugene Harrison passed on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 12 noon at Reidlawn Cemetery, Barnes Street, Reidsville, NC. Public viewing will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021 at McLaurin Memorial Chapel from 1:00 until 7:00 p.m. Our beloved father, son, brother and friend was born on April 6, 1959 in Rockingham County, North Carolina to Elizabeth Harrison and the late Wylie Joe Harrison. He attended the local public schools and was a 1976 graduate of Reidsville Senior High school. His faith and love of God and Country were manifested when he chose to join the United States Navy. Being a conscientious person, he labored as a Damage Control Technician, Fire Fighter Technician, Communications Technician, Ship Defense, Corrosion Control Supervisor, Armament Supervisor, Maintenance Technician Leader, Aviation Management Supervisor and Florescent Penetrant Technician. His awards, medals and badges include: 4th Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Award, 2nd Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and a Battle ā€œEā€ Ribbon. He served on the USS Kearsarge (LHD-3) and the USS Akron 176. Alvis retired honorably from the United States Navy after serving twenty years and earning the rank of E-10 Peggy Officer First Class. He then turned his attention to the United States Postal Services as a Mail Carrier for another twenty years, retiring on April 30, 2019. Alvis enjoyed spending his leisure time for relaxation and meditation at his townhome in Virginia Beach, VA, as well as reading and traveling. He was also a sports enthusiast and loved spending money. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie Harrison. He leaves to cherish precious memories: one son, Alvis Moore (Kymberly), of Hope Mills, NC; mother, Elizabeth Roach Harrison Stokes, of Reidsville, NC; sister, Clementine Pickard (Pick), of Reidsville, NC; brothers, Elder Vonnie Harrison (Triquina), of Ruffin, NC, Spencer Harrison (Jackie), of Reidsville, NC, Wylie Harrison, of Greensboro, NC, Alan Harrison, of Greensboro, NC, Kenneth Harrison, of Reidsville, NC and Jerry Harrison, of Washington, DC; wife, Suzanne Marie Harrison, of Davenport, FL; grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends. Ashton and Yolanda McLaurin and the staff of the McLaurin Funeral Home are serving the family. Covid-19 precautions will be followed with social distancing, masks and sanitizing required.
