Shirley Ann Cusatis Sunday September 27th 2020

Sunday September 27th 2020
In almost every family, there is a certain lady who wears the title of “matriarch.” They all have one thing in common; they are the leaders of the family and it is their job to teach through their words and actions the great wisdom and knowledge they have gained along their lengthy life’s journey. And for one family in particular, Shirley Ann Cusatis was the matriarch and she wore this title with elegance and grace. She lived her life as an example for all to live by. Shirley was born on September 8, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of the late John and Margaret (Wilko) Alonzo. She was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Jacob Cusatis, on September 7, 1957 in Detroit. The couple made their home in Warren in 1961 and was blessed with two wonderful children of whom they loved and cherished. To Shirley, the love of family stood above all else and she was honored to be the best wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Shirley was very artistic. She enjoyed painting, crafting, quilting and sewing. Shirly also loved cooking and enjoyed sharing her talents. She loved keeping active and was the proud owner of Shirley’s Place Ice Cream Store, serving up many smiles. Shirley also worked for Sears in the sales department. She was also very active at St. Edmund Catholic Church and always had a helping hand. Shirley would lead many prayer groups at her home for so many years. She certainly understood the value of friendship and will always be known for her heart of gold. As Shirley came to the end of her life, her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ and love of the Blessed Mother only grew stronger. She prayed the rosary daily, always remembering her family and friends in her prayers. It was Shirley’s strong faith that had held her through all life’s ups and downs but she was always grateful to her Lord for the many blessings He had given her. After a few years of physical struggles, Shirley went home to be with the Lord and her loving husband on September 27, 2020. Though we grieve her passing, we know that Shirley has left us for a better life free from all pain and care. We are all eternally thankful for our cherished matriarch who taught us to be more loving, independent and genuine people by the life she led. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of those that she has left behind. Shirley is the loving and devoted wife of the late Jacob; cherished mother of Michael Cusatis and Christie (Brian) Glenn; dearest grandmother of Rebecca, Michael Jacob, Elizabeth, Brandon and Brian; dear great grandmother of Penelope and Cristiano; and beloved sister of Judith McNeill.
