Shoemaker, age 82, who passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at his residence in Sunset. Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. Deacon David Menard will officiate at the services. Mr. Shoemaker was a native of San Pedro, CA and a resident of Sunset. He was a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer for twenty years and was employed with Chevron for twenty years. He was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church. John was seventeen when he entered the Navy and proudly devoted twenty years of his life to military service. He was a history buff, and he enjoyed World War II documentaries. Surprisingly, he was also an avid Spongebob Squarepants fan, much to the delight of his beloved grandchildren. John worked hard for his family. He prided himself on providing for his family, and he loved them dearly, especially his loving wife, Matilda, of fifty-nine years. His family will treasure their memories of him, and they will miss him dearly. Survivors include his wife, Matilda Shoemaker of Sunset; four sons, Lyle Shoemaker of Sunset, Aaron Shoemaker and his wife, Monica, of Bentonville, AR, John “Skip” Shoemaker, Jr. and his wife, Melissa, of Houston, TX and William Shoemaker of Opelousas; two daughters, Maryanne Shoemaker Davis and her husband, Thomas, of Monroe and Christina Shoemaker Meche of Pecaniere; eleven grandchildren, Grace, Aaron, Abby, Alex, John Michael, Nick and Jake Shoemaker, Hunter and Hailey David, Andre Meche and Paisley Shoemaker; three brothers, Robert Shoemaker and his wife, Joanne, of Hurricane, UT, Byron DeSerisy and his wife, Debrah, of Rogers, AR, and Patrick DeSerisy of Hiltonhead, SC; and one brother-in-law, Alex Greene of Buford, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Lola Shoemaker; and one sister, Lyola Greene. A rosary will be prayed at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. Saturday and will continue from reopen time until service time on Saturday.
