She was born in Cedros, Mazapil Zacatecas, Mexico on June 17, 1954 Manuela is preceded in death by: Parents – Odilon Juarez Vega & Severiana Vasquez Esquivel; Grandson- Jesus Angel Escalante. She leaves behind her family who loved her dearly: Husband of 26 years- Ernesto Jesus Mejia; Son- Julio Cesar Escalante (Esther Escalante); Two Grandchildren who will miss her dearly- Karina Alexis and Julian Ernesto Escalante; Her Loving Family All From Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon Mexico: Brothers- Juan Juarez Vasquez (Guadalupe), Jorge Juarez Vasquez, Jaime Juarez Vasquez (Maria Josefina Alonso Alvarez); Sisters- Bertha Juarez Vasquez, Isabel Juarez Vasquez, Gullermina Juarez Vasquez (Gerardo Chavez) She also leaves behind many numerous nieces and nephews as well as numerous cousins and many many friends who she considered Family and will miss her radiant smile and her joyous spirit. To many, Manuela went by many names..Manuelita, Manues, Mana, Nana, and Wela but most important she was “Mama” like her only son Julio called her…Manuela was the second oldest of 7 siblings, she attended Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico. She finished her degree and Graduated as a Registered Nurse. She was a exceptional daughter always making sure her parents were taken care of and that they had everything they needed, even though she lived many miles away she traveled every other week to come home and be with her parents while they were alive. When she made the decision to move to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1994 and marry her first boyfriend Ernesto, her son Julio was 13 years old. She told me that she wanted a better and new life for her son and by all and any means, she did. She started off by going to take English classes, which she did know and learn. She couldn’t speak it that well, but when there was no one to speak Spanish she made that person understand her…if not believe it that she was then asking to speak to a manager… She then began taking care of patients, until she met a special little girl that she adored and took great care of her until her last day here on earth…. She took care of Amber for 25 years, Manuela was Amber’s 1st Mom, she knew her like no one else knew her, she’d be the first one to defend Amber from anything and anyone. Manuela always saw Amber not as a client or patient, but as her daughter. In August 2014 her world changed, our world changed when her beloved husband Ernesto suffered a stroke and he became totally dependent upon her and so she became his 24 hour around the clock nurse until her last day here on this earth. Manuela took care of Ernesto like no one else, she always put him first before anything. For the past 5 years I had the privilege of spending every single day with her, helping her with Ernesto but most of all so she wouldn’t be alone. We were inseparable, where I would go, she would go. She was my partner in crime, the one I’d tell everything. She was the one to give me advice, she was my shoulder to cry on, and I was hers. There was never a dull moment with her. When Julian was born, he brought so much joy to her life, after going through all the stress and worries dealing with Ernesto’s health, Julian was the one who made her days, months, years brighter. Both Karina and Julian adored her and she adored them. Karina was her “Princesa” and Julian was her “Angel de la guarda”. Her world revolved around her grandchildren, and her son and they were what kept her smiling and laughing daily. Manuela made many many friends along the way, she always kept in touch with her friends from Mexico even if it was through a call or a message. I’m more than sure that everyone will miss her, everyone will miss her bright smile, her amazing spirit, her willingness to go on regardless of what obstacles came upon her. Everyone knew when she’d enter a room. We will miss you dearly, every single second, minute, hour, day, month of the years to come. Thank you for showing us the meaning of Love, Family, Work Ethic, but most of all for being a wonderful friend to all that had the privilege of knowing you. We love you till there is no end, and we will see you one day, in the meantime fly high and swim with the dolphins, and visit everywhere you’ve wanted to go, we will hold on to every single thing you taught us… till we meet again.- Julio, Esther, Karina and Julian Escalante. Memorial service for Mrs. Manuela Mejia will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 from 6:30 p.m. til 8:30 p.m. at Guardian funeral home chapel.
