Obituary John Albert McLellan, 85 of Alanson, died August 28, 2020 at his home. John was born on May 27, 1935 in Petoskey, the son of Robert Lyle and Helen Marie (Schall) McLellan and attended Petoskey Schools. At a young age, John went to work at a local restaurant washing dishes before moving to Grand Rapids and learning the craft of baking at Colonial Bakery. John later returned to Petoskey and went to work for Kilwin’s at their original store. After the store changed hands a few times, John purchased the building and started the first Johan’s Pastry Shop. John owned and operated Johan’s for 16 years until retirement. He devoted his time to working at his old farm house. He loved working in the yard, tending to flowers, riding his mower around the property and was proud of his two chickens, Beatrice and Bolt. He lived a simple life and truly loved his family. He will be remembered as a caring, giving person that loved music, family, animals and ice cream. John is survived by 2 children, Laura (Dave Butler) Pena of Alanson and Robert (Nancy) McLellan of Petoskey; 6 grandsons, Ryan (Kristina) Dyke, Alan (Alyssa) Dyke, Matthew (Heather) Shea, Mitchell (Ellyce) McLellan, Samuel (Kara) McLellan, and Phillip McLellan; a brother, Lyle; 2 sisters, Shirley and Lois, 6 great-grandchildren; and by his 2 best friends, his Boston Terriers, Beau and Benny. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 siblings, Lila, Allen and Gary; and by his life-long friend, Joe Daniels. A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date and will be announced by the Stone Funeral Home of Petoskey. Those wishing to honor John’s memory are asked to make a donation to the Friendship Centers of Emmet County.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of John McLellan May 27 1935 August 28 2020 (age 85).
