Obituary James B. “Red” Joy, 96, of Belmont, died on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at his residence. He was born in York County, South Carolina, son of the late John and Emma Joy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Edna; his son Jerry Joye; a granddaughter Amy Joye; as well as nine sibings. Red served in the United States Fifth Army during WWII and was a Ranger Scout. He was wounded in Italy while serving. Red was a charter member of South Point Fire Department where he served for 25 years. Those left to cherish his memory include his son Barry Joye; two grandchildren Rebecca Joye and Melissa Bancroft; as well as five great grandchildren. The family will greet guests from noon until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at South Point United Methodist Church, 510 S Point Church Road, Belmont with a service immediately following at 1:30 also at the church. Interment with military honors will be at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia. Arrangements are in the care of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly.
