Obituary In memoriam . . . Sharyn Elaine Burke Shelton was born August 14, 1941 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the youngest daughter of Julia Elayne Cahoon and Elden John Burke. Sharyn was the middle child in her family with two older siblings, Janeanne Yvonne and Eldon LeRoy (Rody), and two younger half-siblings, Susan (Suzie) and LaDean (Deanie), and was raised by her mother and stepfather Howard Ephraim Smith. Additionally, growing up, Sharyn was very close to her maternal Grandmother, Bessie Dean Emmett Cahoon and spoke often of memories, experiences, and lessons she had learned from Grandma Cahoon. Sharyn married William Steven Shelton (Steve) on December 31, 1960 and was married for almost 57 years. Together they had four children: Julie Ann, Karen Elayne, Kenneth Steven, and Sharyn Annette. A loving, generous and caring person, Sharyn was constantly involved in charitable works and giving to others. She was often referred to as a wonderful sweet, sweet woman. She had a passion for and was a marvelously gifted and talented seamstress, making numerous fiber arts, including clothing, toys, needlepoint, and beautiful traditional hand-stitched quilts. Numerous of her creations were given to others as gifts, both within and outside of her family. Sharyn was immensely proud of her heritage and a self-made genealogist. She was a lifelong learner and avid reader, constantly in pursuit of knowledge, growth, skills, understanding, and fulfillment. Her selflessness was additionally seen in the love and care she gave her husband and youngest daughter during the various injuries, surgeries, and illnesses they’d had throughout their lives. Sharyn passed away on July 14, 2020 at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Steve, eldest daughter Julie Ann, parents, sister Janeanne Yvonne, aunt Dean and Uncle Fred Haycock, and grandparents. She is survived by three children, seven grandchildren, at least four great-grandchildren, her brother and sisters Suzie and Deanie, and many extended family members. Go in peace Momma . . . You will always be loved, though surely and deeply missed. Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 20, 2020, at the West Jordan Cemetery 7925 South 1300 West, West Jordan, Utah.
