Robert “Bob” John Knigge, 90 years, of Fremont, Nebraska died Monday, July 20, 2020 at Methodist Fremont Health. Bob was born December 30, 1929 in Hastings, Nebraska to John and Esther (Glaum) Knigge. He grew up at Hastings and was a 1948 graduate of Hastings High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from January 3, 1951 to September 25, 1954 and earned the rank of Staff Sgt. He attended Hastings College and graduated with a masters in guidance counseling from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Bob married Audrey “Gwen” Roberts on July 19, 1958 in Hooper, Nebraska. She died March 3, 2012. Bob was employed by the Fremont Public Schools, where he taught math, coached several sports and was a guidance counselor. From 1958 to 1959, he worked for the National Security Agency in Washington, D.C. and then returned to Fremont and worked for the Fremont Public Schools, until retiring in 1991. Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fremont, the Fremont Education Association, Nebraska State Education Association, National Education Association and the National Guidance Counseling Association. He was a former Eagle Scout and former Sertoma Club member. He is survived by sons, Robert (Lark) Knigge of Castle Rock, Colorado, Christopher Knigge of Dallas, Texas and Steven (Angela) Knigge of Fremont; and 5 grandchildren, Melanie, Jake, Maria, Jack and Mia. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Richard (Darlys); and sister, Helen (Emil) Yost. Memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested for scholarships at Fremont High School and First United Methodist Church Ella Powell Scholarship.
