Obituary Louis Anthony Barton who resided in Beaverton, OR, passed away on Wednesday, June 24th at the age of 66 years old after struggling with health challenges for many years. Louis was born in February of 1954 in Los Angeles, CA to Robert and Arlene Wager (Barton). He was later adopted by his mother’s second husband, Edward Barton after Robert’s passing in 1968. As a boy he learned to work hard and care for others as the oldest of eight siblings. His family moved several times to the east coast where his parents were raised. In his youth his family settled in Southern California away from the poor air conditions on the east coast that affected his asthma. Louis had a quick smile and a willingness to help with the younger children while his father was at work. In his late teen years, Louis learned to play the guitar through a church youth group. He then later became part of a church musical group performing at the Catholic Masses he attended with his family. He enjoyed this pursuit and would often have the group’s practice held at his home. Because of his physical limitations, Louis was unable to pursue sports in high school but he was active in campus activities and had many friends. His favorite high school activity was to be a writer and photographer for the school newspaper and staff writer for the school’s annual book. In his early 20’s, Louis became interested in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he then relocated to St. George, Utah. It was there that he was baptized and met the love of his life, DeAnn. They married in the St. George Temple on November 19, 1975 and would have celebrated 45 years of marriage this year. Together they had 3 children and lived in various locations where Louis’s career took them including Utah, New Mexico, Nevada, Florida, Idaho and Oregon. As a young man he went to culinary arts school and was a chef. He used this talent as a way to serve others with love through his delicious food throughout his life. DeAnn never cooked a Thanksgiving dinner and he loved to present his holiday masterpieces to family and friends. He also spent many hours doing cross-stitching projects and making jewelry. In later years he worked primarily as a salesman and bidder for construction work with door and hardware companies. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending his time landscaping and gardening. He had a passion for helping things to grow whether it was flowers in a garden, love in a relationship or faith and testimony in God. At the time of his passing he was serving a mission with DeAnn in the Portland, Oregon area for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ helped him serve in many callings and capacities in his faith. He worked diligently to provide for his family and was always looking for ways to let them know how much they meant to him. He was a very giving man and enjoyed surprising loved ones with gifts or acts of kindness. He was charitable and cheerful to everyone he came in contact with, willing to give his time or even the shirt off his back to help others. He had a thirst for knowledge and particularly loved learning about the world and different cultures. He was proud of his Italian heritage. He had a passion for Family History and spent countless hours helping to organize records. He indexed over 250,000 names for church record keeping. Louis was a perpetual tease and thrived on making people laugh. His playful sense of humor and infectious laugh drew everyone in. He adored his 7 grandchildren and always spent as much time with them as possible. He was very nurturing of their hearts and minds and invested in their success. Louis is survived by his wife, DeAnn, his mother Arlene, and his children, Eric, Katherine and Krystal and his 7 grandchildren, Ashley, Marcie, Michael, Cosette, Sarah, Jared and Celesse, as well as his 8 siblings, Nancy, Patricia, Domenic, Priscilla, Theresa, Loretta, Susan, Janice (and Scott and Monica who are step-siblings) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Wager, Edward Barton and Melodie Ventroni (step-sister). Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a small service for immediate family will be held in Louis’s honor at River View Cemetery Funeral Home on Tuesday June 30th with a larger Celebration of Life event to be held for all once the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
