Obituary Herbert Allen Hamill, 77, of Petoskey, died June 19, 2020 at his home with family by his side. Herb was born on January 27, 1943, one of nine children born to Othel and Dorothy (Lincoln) Hamill. He graduated from Petoskey High School in 1961. Herb was drafted into the United States Army in 1968 and was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam era. On August 23, 1969, Herb married Judy Kilmer. They were happily married for 50 years. Herb was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed deer hunting with his buddies at the “Round 40 Hunting Club” in Indian River every year. He also liked to play softball and go bowling. Herb was an Exaulted Ruler of the Elk’s Lodge, and a member of the Eagle’s Club, and the American Legion. Herb is survived by his wife, Judy Hamill of Petoskey; his children, Melissa Ard and Todd Hamill, both of Petoskey; grandchildren, Jessica Hopkins, Wyatt Ard, Zachary Atchison, Warren Hamill, and Kayla Hamill; great grandchildren, Ethan and Stella; his sister, Virginia “Ginger” Miller of Petoskey; and his best friend, Jerry Vosburg. Herb is preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Jack Hamill, Fran Wagar, Genevieve Ingalls, Bob Hamill, Richard Hamill, Martha Hamill, and Evelyn Brown. The family is planning a memorial service for a later date. Friends wishing to make a charitable donation in his memory are asked to please consider McLaren Hospice.
