Obituary Nicholas Franklin Boxwell, “Nick”, died peacefully at his home in Damascus, Maryland, Friday, May 8, 2020, after a lengthy illness. He was 88 years old. Nick was born in Hagerstown, Maryland on November 7th, 1931 to Nicholas and Evelyn Boxwell of Hagerstown. He was raised in Washington, D.C. where he attended public schools. Nick enlisted in the Washington, D.C. National Guard in 1948. He was inducted into the active military service of the United States Army in 1951. Nick served as a Sergeant in the Korean War and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1952. Nick met his future wife, Barbara, in 1953. They were married in 1954. At the time of his passing, they had been married 66 years. Nick and Barbara initially lived in Washington, D.C., moved to Montgomery County, Maryland, and eventually settled in Damascus were they raised 3 children, Victor, Brenda and Debra. During his career, Nick worked at various sales jobs. He spent 10 years at Comsat Corp. in Clarksburg and retired in 1999 from Long Fence Inc. in Urbana. Nick had an extensive workshop and enjoyed woodworking and repairing anything mechanical. Nick enjoyed traveling. When his children were younger, the family spent numerous weekends at their cabin in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. They enjoyed relaxing, hiking and fishing on the Shenandoah River. When his children grew older, the family travelled to Ocean City, Maryland where they enjoyed the sun & surf, feeding the seagulls and walking on the boardwalk. As his children grew up, Nick and Barbara spent more time traveling by themselves or with friends. They made many trips to the Charlestown Race Track where Nick enjoyed betting on the horse races. They were also members of the Damascus Travel Club and travelled annually with friends to Aruba (27 times). Once his children were married, along came the grandchildren. Nick continued to travel and loved taking his grandchildren along. Many fun times and memories were made with his grandchildren while vacationing in Ocean City or Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. Nick was a member of the Lions Club and the American Legion Post in Damascus. Nicholas Franklin Boxwell, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, approached his life with integrity, wisdom, humor, and courage until the end. Nick will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Nick is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara Boxwell, his two daughters, Brenda Wieder and husband Gary, Debra Mancuso and husband Mike, his six grandchildren, David Boxwell, Marshall Wieder, Kendall Wieder, Lucas Wieder, Michael Widerman and wife Kaitlin, Kevin Widerman and wife Kylie, his two great-grandchildren, Chase Widerman and Sawyer Widerman, his two sisters, Nancy Koawl, Evelyn Boxwell and numerous nieces and nephews. Nick was preceded in death by his son, Victor Boxwell, who passed away in 2016 and his brother Bruce Boxwell. **There are no arrangements for a service at this time. A private graveside service will or has taken place. A memorial service may be held at a later date. We will not be holding any Services at the Funeral Home at this time. No flowers will be accepted at the Funeral Home If you want or feel you need to send flowers you can have them sent directly to the family. (WE WILL NOT FORWARD ANY CARDS, LETTERS OR FLOWERS TO FAMILIES) We do not and will not give out family addresses so please don’t ask.
