Johnnie Richard Mattox, USN (Retired), 88, of Florence passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020 Graveside service will be held Sunday at 2 PM at Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. Mr. Mattox was born in Darlington County. He was a son of the late Walter and Dessie Deese Mattox. He retired from The United States Navy after 25 years as a Chief Petty Officer. He attended Oakdale Baptist Church. Surviving are his daughters, Bonnie Shorey, Kathy (Kenny) Hughes, Pam (Steve) Hatchell; three sisters, Connie Raber, Betty Stanley, Peggy Smith; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Elvie Tadlock Mattox; his brothers Fred, Charles, and Carl Maddox; sister, Ollie Mattox Whaton; son in law, Larry Shorey.
