As a true romantic, Rich gave his heart and soul on Valentine’s Day to be with his one true love, his late and beloved wife, Arlene “Honey” Novicki. Rich is survived by his daughter Lisa Bennett, son-in-law Joseph Bennett, and his favorite grandchildren Eden and Lexa. After living in Chicago for 73 years, grandpa came to Delaware ten years ago to be close to his family. His granddaughters were his true pride and joy. There wasn’t a time he didn’t ask, “how are my little girls?” He attended dozens of dance recitals and swim meets, spent countless hours playing with dolls and drawing on the floor, took dozens of walks in the park, always shared his Saturday morning croissants, enjoyed every birthday and holiday with his granddaughters, and even learned about AirPods and YouTube. He saw his granddaughters mature into little ladies and shared many of his own life’s stories to pass down his wisdom. Richard was known as ‘Dick’ by his closest friends, and was also known as ‘the sweetest man’ by anybody who met him. Even at 6’4″ he had the calmest demeanor, and his full head of white hair couldn’t be missed. He was born and raised in Chicago and was quite the high school athlete, playing basketball and baseball at Gage Park High School, Class of 1954. He then played minor league baseball and was recruited to be team pitcher by Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, where he received his bachelors degree in 1959. Rich then served his country in the United States Marine Corps until 1965. He joined the automotive division of 3M and spent the next 30 years in sales. Married to Honey in 1964, Rich was a dedicated family man, had a wonderful marriage and a large network of close friends. He was quite the wine connoisseur and took many trips to Napa and Sonoma Valley. He loved watching sports, following the news and the stock market, gardening, working with any tool in the garage, and then developed a real love for playing golf. Most of all, Rich just loved being with his family, either resting quietly at home or going out for a nice meal, he will be remembered as the kindest, most generous and gentlest of all souls. Services will be held at St. Casimir Cemetery, 4401 W. 111th St., Chicago, IL 60655 on Friday, February 21st at 11:00 am in the cemetery chapel. Interment to follow.
