Evelyn Johnson Odom February 22, 2020 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation Funeral Services for Mrs. Evelyn Johnson Odom, age 77 of Ashland, will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. James Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashland City Cemetery. Mrs. Odom passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. Mrs. Odom was born and raised in Toombs County, Georgia, and after graduating high school, married her husband, James H. Odom. They traveled and lived all over the United States and in Puerto Rico, where their daughter Tammey was born. She spent most of her time as a housewife, raising her three children. She attended Beauty College, and served as a Beautician for over 27 years. James and Evelyn settled in Clay County in 1974. In 1992, she traveled to Nashville and recorded her own personal Gospel record, one that she was very proud of. Mrs. Odom was an excellent cook, enjoyed quilting in her spare time, and according to her daughter, she never heard her parents argue. She simply loved to be with her husband, often times participating in his hobbies and activities. She was a member of Oak Chapel Baptist Church, and over the past decade, had read her Bible at least once a year. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, James H. Odom of Ashland; her daughter, Tammey Odom Burchfield (Steven) of Lineville; her son, Thomas Lee Odom (Tammi) of Montgomery; six grandchildren: Brandon McVey, Brandi McVey Haynes, J.T. Odom, Joshua Odom, Annabelle Odom, Thomas Odom, Jr.; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters: Geraldine Mitchell (Dan) of Vidalia, GA; Linda Harvey (Wendell) of Lyons, GA; three sisters-in-law: Susan Johnson, Debbie Johnson and Judy Johnson; plus a large extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy Lee Johnson and Eula Pearl Powell Johnson; her son, James “Rex” Odom; and her granddaughter, Windy Odom Zarrabal; three brothers, Ray, Donnie and Wayne Johnson; and her sister, Grace Thigpen; Active Pallbearers will be Brandon McVey, Chris Haynes, J.T. Odom, Joshua Odom, Jason Colvert and Frank Odom, Sr. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 9:30 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M.
