Obituary William Lawrence Kennedy, 83, of Mount Holly, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2019 at his residence. He was born in Miami, Florida on March 20, 1936, the son of the late Lawrence Dunne Kennedy and Deborah Reese Kennedy. William retired from the Metro Dade Sheriffs Office “Miami Vice” squad in 1980 and moved to Hendersonville, NC where he opened and operated Bubba’s Pizza, an Italian restaurant. In the late 80’s and early 90’s he was a candidate for Sheriff of Mecklenburg County. He served as a member of the Mecklenburg County Civil Service Board and also served as a private investigator. He was a highly respected police officer and also taught organized crime and crime scene investigation at Central Piedmont Community College. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Tootie Kennedy. William is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Richard and Mary Kennedy of Mount Holly; granddaughter, Chloe Kennedy; and numerous cousins in Hendersonville. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020, 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church, 13700 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
