Virgil E. Clark, 74, went to be with the Lord on January 5, 2020 at Hospice House of Reno County, Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born May 26, 1945 in Wichita, Kansas to Elmer C. and Vivian L. (Adamson) Clark. Virgil graduated from Burrton High School in 1963. He entered the military September of 1965 and served in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany with the Military Police and then in Vietnam with the 25th infantry. It was there while on a search and destroy mission that he was wounded by mortar fire. He sustained shrapnel that he lived with the remainder of his life. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat infantryman Badge Expert, the Overseas Bar, and the Purple Heart. He worked at various jobs, retiring from the Hutchinson Correctional Facility. Virgil is survived by a brother, Walter Clark and wife, Peggy of Burrton, Kansas; nephew, Jeff Clark of Inman, Kansas; niece Chris Griggs of Sedgwick, Kansas; great nephews and nieces: Paige Griggs and fiance`Josh Nichols, Madison Knackstedt and husband, Baxter, Tyler Griggs, Lane Clark, Olivia Clark, and Lauren Griggs. He was preceded in death by his parents, half sisters, Goldie Bentley of South Carolina and Juanita Foster of Dodge City. Virgil was always willing to share the Lord’s love that was in his heart with others. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church, 256 8th Avenue, Inman, Kansas, with Pastor Bob Dalke presiding. Burial will follow in Halstead Cemetery, Halstead, Kansas with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice House of Reno County or to the Wounded Warrior Project, and left in car of Old Mission-Heritage Funeral Home, 528 North Main Street, Hutchinson, Kansas.
