Violet’s Obituary On Sunday, January 12, 2020, Violet Watson Sherman, loving wife and mother of three children, passed away peacefully at Sherwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 95. Violet was born on October 23,1924 in the St Matthew community. The third child of Herbert Henry Watson and Alice Mixon Watson, she was given the name of her father’s mother “Violet”. In 1929 her family moved to the Early View community and lived in a house that belonged to Charlie Frazier until their house was built on Violet’s mother’s property that she inherited from her grandfather Mose Jackson. Violet joined Early View A.M.E. Church in 1936, where she served faithfully as a choir member, stewardess, trustee, secretary and pianist She enjoyed getting up early on Sunday mornings and cooking dinner to take to the church pastor. Whenever Early View had a worship program, homecoming or any other special program, you could find Violet right there doing whatever needed to be done for that service. She graduated at age 17 as Valedictorian from Hobson High School in 1942 and went on to attend Shorter College in North Little Rock, AR. On March 16,1946, Violet married Rufus Sherman. To this union three sons were born. Rufus and Violet moved to Camden, AR in 1947. She was employed by Dixie Chemical, Jacket King and worked as a janitor at First United Methodist Church. Violet loved the Lord, her church, her family and friends, sewing, quilting and basketball. At the age of 81 she could be found in Conway, AR shooting hoops with one of her grandsons. She also enjoyed cooking, baking cakes, watching and attending the Arkansas Razorbacks Basketball games and’Calling The Hogs’. Woooooooooo. Pig. Sooie! Violet was preceded in death by her father Herbert, her mother Alice, her husband Rufus and her two siblings Lee Andrew Watson and Sapphira Watson Brown. She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, William Harold (Judi) Sherman, Conway, AR, Rudolph Sherman, Camden, AR and Andrew Lee Sherman, Conway, AR; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Family will receive friends 6:00-7:00PM Friday, January 24, 2020 at Proctor Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Sherman will be 11:00AM Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Early View A.M.E. Church 511 Columbia 73, McNeil, AR. Burial will follow at Gatlin Cemetery, McNeil, AR . Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Repast will be at St. James A.M.E.
