Thomas Banner Prater Sr. April 12, 1941 – January 17, 2020 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation Thomas Banner Prater Sr., 78, of Naubinway, died Friday afternoon January 17, 2020 at his residence under the care of his family. Born April 12, 1941 in Newberry, son of the late Cecil and Rosella (McCarry) Prater, Tom was a 1959 graduate of Engadine High School. Tom resided in the Waterford area and was employed at the General Motors/Pontiac Plant for 30 years, retiring in 1993 as a general foreman. While residing downstate, he was a member of the Masonic Commerce Lodge #121 F & AM. Following his retirement he and his wife, Joyce, moved to the Rexton/Caffey area. Tom enjoyed riding his Harley-Davison motorcycle, Enduro dirt bike racing, flying his airplane, reading Louis L’amour books and cheering for the Green Bay Packers. In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his children Marsha Prater, Shawn Prater and Dawn Miller; siblings Bertha Demarest and William Prater. Survivors include his loving wife, Joyce (Jackson) Prater whom he married December 26, 1972; son Thomas Jr. of Waterford and daughter Alex Prater (Fred Dutton) of Trout Lake; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister Wilda (Don) Frederick of Naubinway. The family will receive friends on Friday January 24, 2020 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry. Funeral services celebrating the life of Tom with follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Melinda VanderSys officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at the Caffery Cemetery in Hendricks Township. Condolences may be expressed at www.beaulieufuneralhome.com.
