Obituary Susan “Susi” Simpson Daniels passed away peacefully February 24, 2019, after a long, valiant battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was born Aug. 15, 1951, in Ironton, Ohio, to the late Frank Gates and Irma Fannin Simpson Jr. Susi is survived by her devoted husband Dennis Edward Daniels of Flatwoods, her sister Missi Simpson (Garry) Baker of Ashland and a brother, Frank G. Simpson (Ellen) of Nashville. She also leaves behind two stepsons, Christopher Daniels of Ashland and Dennis Keith Daniels of Lapel, Indiana. She was a doting grandmother to Brooke Elizabeth and Lilly Lee Daniels of Lapel and loving aunt to Alisa Dawn Baker of Houston and Matthew Jackson Baker of Las Vegas. Many other extended family members will sorely miss her kind, joyful spirit. Susi and Dennis were baptized together in October 14, 2003, at Bridges Christian Church where they remained active members until Susi’s illness slowed her. She sang in the choir and together they hosted Bible study in their home and volunteered in various church events. Retiring after twenty-seven years, Susi took enormous pride in her years of teaching English and sponsoring the cheerleading squads at Greenup County High School where she captured the love and respect of hundreds of students and colleagues. Over the years Susi loved hosting family and friend gatherings around her pool in summer and during her favorite times at Christmas where she loved to give—and receive!— gifts. Above all, Susi will be remembered for her engaging smile, her undaunted optimistic spirit even in darkest of times, her loyalty and love for family and friends and her unwavering faith in God. The family will be forever grateful to the nursing staff and her personal caregivers at Oakmont Manor who became part of our family. Graveside services will be at noon Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens with Rev. Thomas Lawson and Roger McCaleb officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson’s research can be made at www.michaeljfox.org. Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods is caring for arrangements.
