He was born on April 19, 1928 in Marquez, Texas to Romus Burgin and Ella Thomas Burgin. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of First Baptist Church Daingerfield. Ray joined the Masonic Lodge on his 21st Birthday and became a Life Member of numerous lodges across East Texas. He was Past Master of Temple Lodge No. 70 in Mount Pleasant and oversaw the building of a new Lodge, where meetings are currently held. He was also a member of the Knights Templar and of the Scottish Rite. Ray was retired from Lone Star Steel and enjoyed his retirement in Daingerfield, Texas. He was survived by his son, David Max Burgin of Humble, Texas; daughter-in-laws, Kaleta Burgin and Diomi Burgin Rivera; daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Mark Brill of Tacoma, Washington; grandchildren, Michael and Tammy Proctor of Omaha, Texas; Cody and Jessica Burgin of DeKalb, Texas; Nicole Burgin of Pasadena, Texas; Max Burgin of Humble, Texas; great grandchildren, Victoria Proctor, A.J. Burgin, Maddux Burgin, Georgia Rae Burgin, Landry Burgin, Brittany Proctor; great great grandchild, Desion Proctor; brother and sister-in-law, James and Doris Burgin of Sugarhill, Texas; 4 nieces and 1 nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the funeral home, with burial to follow at the Talco Cemetery in Talco, Texas.
