Robert’s Obituary Hampstead, NH: Robert J. Jones, 83 a resident of Hampstead for the past sixteen months, died January 23, 2020 at his home, following a long illness. Born in Amesbury, son of the late Joseph and Anita (Michaud) Jones, he was raised and educated in Haverhill and graduated from the former Haverhill Trade School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 until 1959 and was honorably discharged as an Airman First Class. Mr. Jones first worked as a machinist at Northeast Tool and Dye Co of Haverhill for several years before establishing Jones Builders in Atkinson, NH. A longtime resident of Atkinson, Mr. Jones served as the town’s Building Inspector for twenty-seven years before his retirement in 2019. He also served the Town of Plaistow as the interim Building Inspector over the last several years. Mr. Jones was a member of the Atkinson Lions Club, Post # 4 of the American Legion of Haverhill and AmVets Post 147. An avid hunter and boater, he owned the Obsession III and operated deep sea fishing parties off the New England coast, and enjoyed many hours on his boat tuna fishing with his many friends. A scuba diving instructor and President of Scuba Kings Diving Club, he invented a special underwater camera that he used while diving for artifacts. When it came to music, he enjoyed country music, especially Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and Tammy Wynette. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of twelve years, Sandra M. (Webster) Jones, two sons, Robert J. Jones, Jr., of Haverhill and Larry A. Jones of Amesbury, a step-daughter, Michelle Zuzel and her husband Todd of Kensington, a sister Diane Burns of Newburyport, two grandchildren Kathryn McQuarrie and Christopher Jones, a great grand-daughter, Kaci McQuarrie, a step grand-daughter, Natasha Cayer, a step-grandson Nathan Sanborn, two step great-grand-daughters, Maiya and Ellie, a special friend of Bob and his wife Sandra, Bonnie Laporte, and his longtime fishing buddy, John Marchand. He was predeceased by his sister, Arlene Mondeau and his Jack Russell Terrier, “Vince”. Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will follow at 6:15 p.m. in the funeral home. A springtime burial with military honors will be held in Atkinson Cemetery.
