Rita Christine Wallen, 65, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 16, 2020, after a lengthy illness. Rita was born on December 27, 1954 to the late Carson and Maggie Lawson Johnson, in Daniels, MD. Rita was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and was baptized at the same time as her daughter, Heather, in 1994. Rita joined West View Primitive Baptist Church where she was a faithful member. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Latrina Upman. Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 46 years, Richard Wallen; her loving daughter, Heather Wallen; sister, Patricia Richards and husband Jim; mother-in-law, Gracie Wallen; several nieces and nephews, and a host of close friends and relatives. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, at West View Primitive Baptist Church, 1040 Riverside Avenue, Kingsport, TN. A visitation will also be held from 12 until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 20, at Robinette Funeral Home in Blackwater, VA. Funeral services will follow on Monday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Elder Bernice Sybert and Elder Oscar Irvin officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Osborne Cemetery in Blackwater. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Kevin Misischia and his nurse, Carrie, Rita’s caregiver, Michelle Shaffer, and Amedisys Hospice for their excellent care – especially Jodie Schaffer, Angela Hensley and Pastor Rick Dinkins, Chaplain. A special thanks is also extended to Rita’s niece Melissa Walton for her endearing Christian witness and support throughout Rita’s illness.
