Obituary Mike Kartel, 62, of West Burlington, died at 7:58 PM Monday, January 13, 2020. Born December 29, 1957, in Illinois, he was the son of Joseph G. and Juanita Stephan Kartel. Mike owned and operated his own computer business. He also worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. He enjoyed golfing, playing pool and cards. He had a strong love for science, and also liked to race go-karts, RC cars and held a pilot’s license. Survivors include his mother, Juanita Kartel; two sisters, Juli (Kelly) Kartel – Hill of Champaign, IL, and Debra (John) Yacko of Colorado Springs, CO; two daughters, Alaura (Kyle ) Rappenecker of Burlington, and Arrin (Sean Walker) Kartel of Burlington; one son, Jesse Kartel of Burlington; and his ex-wife, Lynn Kartel of West Burlington. He was preceded in death by his father, his step-father Dean, one daughter, Terri, and two brothers, Steve and Joseph. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. The memorial visitation for Mike will be 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Friday, January 31, 2020, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
