STAFF SERGEANT MICHAEL ALAN COLLINS, 38 years of age of Fort Belvoir, VA, formerly of Buchanan County, passed away Monday, January 6, 2020 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. He died at home surrounded by his loving wife, mother and father. Born in Grundy, VA, he was the son of Randy and Robin (Elswick) Collins of Vansant, VA. Michael was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. He was a comic book enthusiast his entire life and had a large collection of comic books.… He had a passion for reading and a love of music. He loved to travel and further cultivated that love by joining the military. During his 17-year career, he earned the Iraqi Freedom and Iraqi Endurance awards and the last 8 years he has worked with the Defense Attaché System (DAS) in Brussels and Beijing. He was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandparents, Jack Russell and Edith Collins; Maternal Grandmother, Gertrude Norman; Step-Grandfather, Herman Norman; 2-Special Uncles, Rick Elswick and Gary Collins; Special Cousin, Nick Collins. Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Randy and Robin (Elswick) Collins of Vansant, VA; his wife, Courtney (Ritchie) Collins of Fort Belvoir, VA; 2 Children: Oliver Milo Collins of Fort Belvoir, VA, Liam Russell Collins of Fort Belvoir, VA; Sisters: Ambreia (Shane) Anderson of Grundy, VA, Taylor Ward of Cleveland, OH; Brothers: Bruce (Jessica) Owens of Albany, GA, Joe Blankenship of Abingdon, VA, Wes Ritchie of Cleveland, OH; Special Cousin: Jason Varney of Berea, KY. Memorial Services for STAFF SERGEANT MICHAEL ALAN COLLINS will be conducted Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 6:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Full Military Rites by Childs-Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion.
