Mary’s Obituary Mary Ann Konopka, 93, of Palmer Township, PA, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 in Whitehall Manor with her son and daughter-in-law at her side. Mary Ann was born in Easton, PA, the daughter of the late Francesco and Angelina (Fili) Alfano; and raised by her Uncle and Aunt the late Anthony and Anna Fili as their own, upon her parents’ death. Mary Ann was married to Stephen Konopka for 71 years until his passing on January 18, 2019. She was a graduate of Easton High School class of 1944. Mary Ann was a secretary at Ingersol Rand, a registrar at The Easton Hospital School of Nursing, and a secretary for the Easton Area School District for 24 years until her retirement. At the school, Mary was fondly referred to as Mrs. K, who touched the hearts of many young students during her time at the school. Mrs. K. continued receiving heartfelt correspondences, visits and gifts from the students who meant so much to her. Later, she worked part-time in sales at the front desk of the YMCA in Forks Township. Mary loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an amazing cook which her family thoroughly enjoyed. She traveled extensively with her husband Steve, throughout the United States attending WWII Navy reunions, abroad visiting relatives in Sicily and Italy, along with many delightful cruises. Mary was fond of music, dancing, shopping and bowling. Mary Ann is survived by her daughters Michelle Strawn and husband Thomas of Franklin, MA, Stephanie Skerchock and husband John of Chester Springs, PA; and a son Stephen F. and wife Terry of Nazareth, PA; grandchildren Margaux Curtis and spouse Julie of Beavercreek, Ohio, Gabrielle Simarrian and husband Glen of Plainville, MA, Samantha Dillon and husband Austin of Kennett Square, PA, Sarrah Konopka and Kaitlin Konopka of Palmer Township, PA, Grant Skerchock of Lancaster, PA, Stephen A. Konopka of Philadelphia, PA; great-grandchildren Gavin and Giana Simarrian and Eamon Dillon. She is also survived by sisters Teresa Stolten of Martins Creek, PA, Angela Mazza and husband Louis of Easton, PA, Barbara Miller and husband Carl of Easton, PA, and Toni Ann Johansen and husband Douglas of Easton, PA, and a sister-in-law Margaret Alfano of Cummins, Georgia; brothers Joseph Fili and wife Jane of Slatington, PA, and Richard Fili of Easton, PA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Stephen; sisters Jean Galante and Marie LaRosa; and a brother Jack Alfano. Mary Ann was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, the Sacred Heart Sodality, The Golden Age, the Silver Sneakers, St. Vince DePaul Society, and an active member of the PTA in her earlier years. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 31, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with an additional calling hour on Saturday, from 8:15 am to 9:15 am in Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Township). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 am in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 9th & Lehigh Streets, Easton, PA. Interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Palmer Township.
