Doerksen, age 87, passed away Sunday afternoon, January 12, 2020, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas. She was born February 15, 1932, in rural Gray County, Kansas, the daughter of John D. and Mary (Hooge) Wiens. As a young girl, she attended school at Mountain Lake, Minnesota. After her graduation, she attended nurses training at St. Paul, Minnesota, and later attended Tabor College. On November 29,1963, she married Pete Doerksen in Mountain Lake. After their marriage, the couple moved to Meade and she began working as an RN at Lone Tree Lodge and then, Minneola District Hospital and Meade District Hospital. She took a break from nursing while she raised her children and returned to work at Lone Tree Lodge in the early 1980’s. She retired from Lone Tree Lodge at the age of 62. She was a member of the Emmanuel Mennonite Church. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, volunteering, gardening, traveling, music, and spending time with her family, friends, and especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Pete of Meade; a son, Kelly Doerksen and wife Kristen of Wichita, Kansas; two daughters, Kathy Isaac and husband Lyle of Hillsboro, Kansas, and Ramona Doerksen of Wichita, Kansas; four sisters, Ruth Buller and Mariana Wiens both of Salem, Oregon, Eldina Black and husband Phil of Clovis, New Mexico, and Grace Telles and husband Allen of Mountain Lake, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Gwen Wiens of St. Charles, Illinois; and four grandchildren, Jacob Isaac, Kyla Isaac, Luke Isaac, and Ethan Doerksen. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold Wiens; a sister, Esther Wood; and a granddaughter, Alyssa Isaac. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2020, at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Meade. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Interment will follow in the Emmanuel Mennonite Church Cemetery, rural Meade. The family would welcome memorials to the Emmanuel Mennonite Church or the Lone Tree Retirement Center in care of the funeral home.
